The time has come in the Chase for the Cup where we've reached the cut for the second round. Coming up is the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway where we get a little closer to finding out who will be crowned as the NASCAR Cup Series champ. Four drivers will be eliminated from the running after this race as the Round of 12 comes to an end.

This is the third annual road race at the North Carolina oval. This track is very similar the Daytona International Speedway road course that is used in some series like IMSA. This will be an interesting race for many drivers as they're not as familiar with this road course as they would be on the standard oval tracks. However, most of the drivers have raced on the Roval over the course of the last two seasons, so that should help.

All that said, this race will be a pressure cooker as it is a cut race and a fairly new track. This should be a fun race to watch.

Denny Hamlin took home the victory last Sunday by inching out Matt DiBenedetto right before the finish line. He was able to take home the win by being patient and hanging back while all much of the field ahead of him crashed and took themselves out of the race. That's not to say he didn't have any close calls as at one point in the race he was forced below the double yellow line.

For Matt DiBenedetto, this is a tough one to swallow. Di Benedetto is no longer in the Race for the Cup. He was racing with the hope of grasping his first Cup Series win in his career and also trying to solidify his NASCAR future. After a yellow line infraction was charged to DiBenedetto, he ended up in the 22nd spot even though he finished right behind Hamlin.

Luckily for Kurt Busch, he already clinched his spot in the Round of 8 with his victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. However, Clint Bowyer, Aric Almirola and Kyle Busch did not finish the race because of damage and basically need to win their next race if they want to stay in the playoffs.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

Coming into the last race in the NASCAR Cup Series' Round of 12, there are some drivers that have some work to do if they want to continue their runs at the Cup.

The first driver below the cutline is Kyle Busch. He really needs a win this next race which would be the first one in his last 31 races. Busch is 21 points behind Joey Logano and tied with Austin Dillon. Clint Bowyer is 38 points back and Aric Almirola is 48 points under the cutline. This race is crucial for these drivers.

Roval

As we speak, Denny Hamlin has locked in his spot to the next round along with Kurt Busch. Other drivers behind them include Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr., Alex Bowman and Joey Logano.

And now we come up on another road course where anything can happen. Martin Truex Jr. has four wins on road courses so it makes sense that he'll be one of the favorites. In addition, Chase Elliot has four wins on road courses in his last 11 races and even took the victory on the Roval in Charlotte last season. There will be some drivers fighting for their lives
